Why Do Dental Implants Cost Way Less in Venezuela?

Although many people tend to almost immediately, and unconsciously, associate low cost with poor quality products or services, we must affirm; and with the maximum property, that many times it is a fact that is far from reality, at least in some cases.

And even more when we talk about dental tourism, where the macroeconomic and social structures of each country are capable of creating huge gaps and differentials in the cost of any oral rehabilitation. In Venezuela, the operating expenses of a dental clinic can be up to 70% lower than in North America and other European countries, and consequently, much lower prices are offered for its services.

Despite the price, the quality standards of our dental clinic are better than or equal to those of any Dentist in the United States. We use the same materials, trademarks, suppliers, laboratory equipment and clinical protocols as any good professional in that country.

In the same way, the fact that a treatment is cheaper in one country than in another, does not in any way mean that the Dentist has less education, training, knowledge and clinical experience. Proof of this is that our Specialist in Oral Surgery, Dr. Castor José Garabán Povea, has been for many years University professor of numerous Surgeons who now practice at the highest level in Europe and North America.

Let us look at the top 6 reasons behind the low costs of dental implants in Venezuela:

1- University Training Expenses

On average, the cost of tuition for four years of dental school in the US varies in price between 21,600 and 64,800 American dollars in public schools and almost $300,000 in the most prestigious private institutions. In addition, later, the costs of the Specialization or Master courses can range from 120,000 to 250,000 dollars.

In Venezuela, undergraduate and postgraduate studies in Dentistry are completely free, offered by state public Universities; so that academic and professional training expenses do not affect the final cost structure of professional practice.

2- The Real Estate Value

The Venezuelan economy, unfortunately, remains stagnant in its sixth consecutive year of recession, in the midst of a serious social and political crisis.

As a result, prices in the real estate market have fallen by 75% in the last 20 years, thus ranking among the lowest in all of Latin America. On average, the current price per square meter represents only 25% of the value it had 20 years ago. If the average price per square meter in the main cities of the continent is around $1,500, in Caracas it is now below $400.

Therefore, the investment amount required to buy or rent a business premises in Caracas can be up to 10 times less than in many North American cities.

3- Special Offers for Latin American Dentists

Many manufacturers and exporters of dental implants, mainly high-end, seek to counteract the impact of the economic downturn that affects many countries in Africa, Latin America and South Asia; offering their products below their usual cost.

Price marketing and permanent discounts are often the business strategies that work best for these companies, allowing them to defend their market share, while at the same time; taking a more competitive position against other lower-quality brands.

In Venezuela, a high-end dental implant usually costs the Dentist between 15% and 25% less than in Europe or North America.

4- Low Operating Costs

Compared to the western countries of the first world, the management of a dental practice in Venezuela costs much less money. Running a dental clinic and paying local staff, including the most skilled and experienced dental professionals, is not as expensive as in the United States or Canada; for example.

As a result, dental clinics in Venezuelan cities like Caracas can offer much lower prices. Therefore, even a modern and well-equipped dental facility, with the best professionals working in it, will be able to operate on a much lower budget than a comparable one in Miami, Curaçao, Madrid or Port of Spain; just to give some examples.

Whereas a dental hygienist or an administrative assistant charges an average of about 3,800 dollars a month in Canada, 3,000 dollars in the United States or 1,200 euros in Spain; in Venezuela their salary barely reaches $300. Similarly, and due to the great competition that exists in the sector, the workforce and salaries of laboratory technicians are much lower than in other countries; and they directly affect the final price of the service.

Although the causes that wages in our country are so low are multiple, complex (reduction in the supply of goods and services, shortages, price controls, emission of inorganic money and hyperinflation; among others) and their exposure is beyond the intention of this post, the important thing is to know that in the end they play in favor of the foreign patient and are what allow us to be so competitive in the international dental sector.

While in developed countries the average operating cost for dental implant surgery ranges from $800 to $1,000, in Venezuela it is only around $250.

5- Tax Exemption

In Venezuela, all health services are exempt from Value Added Tax (VAT), which translates into a direct reduction of between 15% and 20% in any dental treatment, in relation to the price that may have in any other country in the region.

6- Consumer Price Index (CPI) and Cost of Living

Despite the political, social and economic crisis in Venezuela, and according to the British newspaper “The Economist”, Caracas has become the cheapest city in the world to live.

According to a study carried out by the weekly in 2019 and in which its experts compared 400 average prices of 160 types of products and services among 133 cities in 93 countries, Caracas displaced Damascus as the least expensive city on the planet, ranking in the position 133.

Such a circumstance allows us to drastically reduce the necessary profit margins and, consequently, the final price of the treatment. While American Surgeons aspire on average to a minimum net profit of $1,000 per implant, in Venezuela $200 or $250 is enough.

So, now you know why dental implants cost much less in Venezuela!

Without a doubt, with the correct information, it is easy to find reliable clinics in Caracas; and even, in other cities of our national territory.

“A High-End Implant, Which in North America Usually Costs Above 3,000 Dollars, in Venezuela Its Price Barely Reaches $900”.
