Procedures and Immigration Requirements for International Patients

Most of the citizens with European or Latin American nationalities, still do not need to process any type of visa to travel to Venezuela as a tourist, being able to enjoy the “Benefit of Suppression of Visas of Non-Migrants in Ordinary Passports”, which allows them to stay in the country for a period of three months.

But if you are thinking of visiting us, do not forget to check that you have all the necessary documents on hand that make up the list of requirements to travel to Venezuela, in general, quite similar to those requested anywhere in the world.

What Are These Requirements?

Among the requirements to travel to Venezuela, there are some mandatory that every traveler must meet, and others that will depend exclusively on the nationality of the visitor.

There are only six mandatory requirements for all travelers who do not have Venezuelan nationality and wish to enter the country as tourists:

1- A valid passport for a minimum of six (6) months and at least one (1) blank sheet.

2- An immigration card (provided by the airline during the flight).

3- Return air ticket within a period not exceeding 90 days.

4- Supports or proofs of economic means that allow the immigrant to cover the expenses of stay based on its duration (credit cards, debit cards and cash).

5- Supports or proofs of accommodation (reservation and hotel payment).

6- General health protocol described later.

At the same time, and depending on the nationality of the traveler, a tourist visa may also be required. A visa is a stamp or sticker on a passport indicating that the holder is allowed to enter, leave, or stay for a specified period of time in a particular country.

– Canada and the United States of America are among the few countries that require a visa to enter Venezuela –

The tourist visa for Venezuela will be issued by consular authorities abroad and will be granted to foreigners who enter the country for recreational or leisure purposes, health or activities that do not involve remuneration or profit. It will be valid for one (1) year, multiple entries and will allow to stay in the country for a period of up to ninety (90) days, extendable for the same lapse of time.

What About Canada and USA?

In the case of Canada, all visas are processed by the Venezuelan Embassy in Ottawa or by its consulates in Vancouver, Montreal and Toronto. To know the requirements and carry out the procedure you must visit the portal www.venezuela/embajada-en-canada/ or preferably, hire the services of a visa processing company such as:

As of the date of this post, unfortunately diplomatic relations between Venezuela and the United States of America have been suspended, with inactive Embassies and Consulates, so that the only way for a citizen born in USA to obtain a visa to our country is to move to another neutral to carry out the procedure. The Venezuelan Consulates of Mexico, Canada, Panama and the Dominican Republic are the ones that absorb the vast majority of these cases.

Entry Requirements for Citizens of Venezuelan Nationality

1- Venezuelan Passport (currently valid or expired) or laminated Identity Card (currently valid or expired).

2- General health requirements described below.

Sanitary Requirements for All Nationalities

To be able to travel and enter Venezuela, all passengers over 5 years old must present, at the time of their check-in at origin, a vaccination certificate (complete scheme) against COVID-19 in physical or digital format, whose last dose has been applied at least 14 days before the date of entry into the country. If more than 270 days have elapsed since the last immunization (regular and/or booster), it must contain a new booster dose.

The passenger who does NOT present the certificate and/or who has NOT been vaccinated with the complete scheme, must present the negative result of a Molecular Test (RT-PCR), with a maximum validity of 72 hours before the arrival of the flight.

Said test must have been carried out in laboratories duly authorized by the health authorities of the country of origin, must be printed, contain the person’s data and a link or QR code that allows its validation.

Upon arrival in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, all travelers must abide by the instructions of the health authorities, who at their discretion, may require a new PCR to be carried out at the airport of entry into the national territory.

However, the best thing to do in this regard, is to always request updated information from your travel agency and airline.

Travel Insurance

– Although it is no longer mandatory, it is always advisable to have international travel and medical insurance –

Until recently, having personal insurance with health coverage and loss of luggage was one of the mandatory requirements for traveling to Venezuela. Although it is no longer part of the immigration requirements, it is still highly recommended, considering the possibility of any inconvenience or unforeseen of personal, medical or legal order.

For a very small amount of money, you can travel in peace, comfort and safety. Here are some recommended links to access these products:

Invitation Letter

As a migratory guarantee, it only applies in the cases of relatives and close friends, in which the guest (legal resident in Venezuela) is able and willing to demonstrate the union link with the traveler, provide him with accommodation at his private home and cover all the expenses of stay and maintenance.

In the case of Venezuela, invitation letter has no use or reason in health tourism. All our patients must visit us in condition of “regular tourists”.
