It Is a Profession with Almost 200 Years of Evolution and Scientific Progress in Our Country
– Old Facultad Médica de Caracas –
On March 10, 1835, the Facultad Médica de Caracas conferred for the first time the title of “Dental Surgeon”, who consecrated Don Vicente Toledo as patriarch of the Venezuelan dental family. The flow is enriched on November 2, 1895, when “La Unión Dental” was founded in Valencia, the first publication of its kind in Venezuela, whose appearance begins the formative period of our guild.
On March 19, 1934, the “Federación Odontológica Venezolana” was installed in Caracas, to group all Dentists and various associations integrated by them. In April of the same year, the magazine “Venezuela Odontológica” was created, with the aim of promoting the development of the science and dignifying the profession.
On July 24, 1940, the National Congress approved the New Education Law that created the “Facultad de Odontología” of the Universidad Central de Venezuela, thanks to which our profession acquired University rank, greater hierarchy and international recognition.

On July 15, 1943, the National Congress approved the project of the “Practice of Dentistry Law”. Pursuant to the provisions of the aforementioned Law, on August 10, 1944, the “Colegio de Odontólogos de Venezuela” was installed in a solemn act; with the purpose of procuring the advancement of dental science and ensuring the decorum and dignity of each of its members.
Since the 70s, we have had a configuration of scientific organizations, associations and societies that reflect the institutionality and maturity of the sector, and that among many other functions aim to ensure that the quality processes of the different Dental Specialties of the country are conform to international standards defined by The International Society for Quality in Healthcare (ISQua).
